Why Every Wannabe Entrepreneur Needs This Book

A few weeks ago I ordered this book through the local book store. One of my favourite blogs is chrisguillebeau.com. Chris is also the author of this book. It’s premise is that of the microbusiness. Basically what a microbusiness is, is a business that brings in enough income to sustain a person or a family so that they don’t have to get a job. The cut off is that the microbusiness must bring in a minimum of $50,000 per year, though many of the people interviewed in the book bring in over 7 figures per year. Of course, he is only interested in people that have created such “muses” by minimal investment. $100.

In The $100 Startup, Chris Guillebeau shows you how to lead a life of adventure, meaning and purpose — and earn a good living.

There are many others like Chris — those people who have found alternative routes to living life. People who have chosen to end the traditional employment route and create  time and income to pursue what they find meaningful. Luckily choosing this life direction doesn’t include totally ending what you are currently doing, you can work away at your dream whilst holding down a job. After all, that’s life, and you gotta do what you gotta do.

Chris identified 1,500 individuals who have built businesses (with the criteria mentioned above) and from that group he’s chosen to focus on the 50 most intriguing case studies. In nearly all cases, people with absolutely no special skills discovered aspects of their personal passions that could be monetized, and were able to restructure their lives in ways that gave them greater freedom and fulfillment. How does this sound to you?

I love the book. I love every book about this particular topic and I’m surprised that this guy isn’t on Oprah! I think it’s a marvelous idea and that people around the world should be following in his footsteps.

Some of the folks in his book had started traditional businesses (offline) and were making good money doing what they loved, and an equal amount were doing business online. There’s even a guy in the book that was from India who was earning $130,000 per year selling “How to become an expert in Microsoft Exel” courses and he was on track to make $200,000 this year! Even in this country that would be an amazing income let alone India! Astonishing.

If anyone out there is willing to create a “muse” with me and compare notes at the end of 2013 I’m down for it. I’ve already started something else and I am committed to it for at least 12 months. My goal is to make $10,000 per month this year (2013). Ethically.  Reading this book will help you go a long way to achieving this goal.  Let me know your thoughts below in the comment section. Don’t worry too much about the haters because I’ve encountered plenty of people who just don’t understand the concept of internet marketing, and who think it’s some kind of pyramid scheme. In the next post I’ll share more with you about how I intend to achieve this.

Until then guys, have a great week. Talk again soon.
